So we’re back to high school year 9, the year you choose ‘options’ this was our first day….
First day of term, bus home didn’t come
Pick me up, don’t pick me up, yes pick me up mum.
Chatting in the car, what did you do?
Nothing really, Oh moved down to set 2
Set 2, set 2, I was freaking out
Haven’t you been working I wanted to shout
Your report was so good, but parents its true
High school make decisions that don’t include you
I’ll phone the school I dramatically said
“mum it’s ok, don’t go off your head”
You might not be bothered son, acting so cool
If I don’t like their answer i’m changing your school
Well he said that i’m fussing and stop going on
My maths hasn’t changed i’m still in set one
So after my chat with year 9 head of year
Who dispelled all my worries and banished my fear
My son is quite capable, ahh but alas
He spends all his time just chatting in class!
to be continued…………………….
I know Set 2 is ok but High School never tell you anything or how they make decisions. This is what they do, and the Head did agree it seems unfair but….
If you drop grades in English as my son has you move to set 2 BUT English determines the timetable so if you are Set 2 English you have to be in 2 for French Spanish History Geography in fact any literacy based subjects. Apparently when he has chosen his options the timetable changes, it is not controlled by the English lesson so son will go back to Set 1 for all except English. You never know, if he stops chatting he might move back up in English too.
